Transformer Repairers

Clean and repair electrical transformers.

Job Task

  • Cleans transformer case, using scrapers and solvent.
  • Fills reassembled transformer with oil until coils are submerged.
  • Reassembles transformer.
  • Drains and filters transformer oil.
  • Disassembles distribution, streetlight, or instrument transformers.
  • Replaces worn or defective parts, using hand tools.
  • Winds replacement coils, using coil-winding machine.
  • Signals crane operator to raise heavy transformer component subassemblies.
  • Secures input and output wires in position.
  • Inspects transformer for defects, such as cracked weldments.
  • Dismantles lamination assembly, preparatory to cleaning and inspection.
