A Critique of Your Resume:

Dear Dawn ~

Given your career path in the Arts, I chose a “Specialty” resume to best display your skills. This format is creative and visually appealing, ensuring that you stand out from the other applicants.

I began your resume by choosing Freestyle Script for your name and the section headings. Not only is this font in keeping with the artistic nature of your resume, but the eyes are readily drawn to the important aspects of the document - “Artist,” “Awards & Exhibitions,” “Professional Experience,” and “Education.”

While many resumes begin with an Objective, I chose a Qualifications Summary for your document. In an Objective, the applicant is telling a hiring manager what she wants; whereas in a Qualifications Summary, she is explaining to the hiring manager what she can do for the targeted company. You’re making a powerful statement when you put the hiring manager’s needs above your own.

In this Qualifications Summary, I began with the tag “Artist.” Next I described you as an “Award-winning Designer degreed in Textile and Oriental Painting.” I then wrote of your achievements in exhibiting work at the Manchester Gallery and your successful internship with Ralston Technology. I ended this brief paragraph by listing your linguistic capabilities, including fluency in English, Spanish, and Russian. In the world market, language skills are essential; therefore I presented yours as quickly as possible.

In the next section, I listed your Awards and Exhibitions.

In the Professional Experience section that follows, I detailed your work with Ralston Technology and First Imports Channel. Here, I began each bulleted sentence with the strongest action verb possible, while also revising text for clarity, conciseness, and maximum impact.

For example: In your email to ResumeEdge, you indicated that at First Imports Channel you “…checked colors and spoke, at various intervals, with the factory owners.”

I revised that to read:

· Ensured quality of color matching by working closely with the manufacturer.

With this rewrite, the material is presented professionally and concisely, exactly what hiring managers want to read.

I ended your resume with your education, bolding and italicizing your degrees so that they would stand out.

All decisions to modify data were in keeping with the guidelines and standards set forth by the Professional Association of Resume Writers (PARW).

It was a pleasure serving you, Dawn.

Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
